“... talking with each other about all ... that had happened.”
“That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.”
(Luke 24:13–14, ESV)
While the movie Wild Hogs is ridiculous and now a forgotten movie, I remember especially liking it. While it was way over the top, a part of it resonated with me. Often, as men, we feel a void in life … a dissatisfaction with the mundane and usual responsibilities of life. Our joy, relationships, and faith can easily become stagnant if we are not careful. We try to infuse new energy through sports or activity or making money, but none of these fulfill the desire.
You will have noticed that NCC has some new ladies and men’s activities happening (initiated out of the Adult Discipleship Team). Too often we pull back from others, and we (at NCC) believe that by leaning into relationship with one another, we will do better. It is meaningful relationship (with our spouse, family, and others) that fills the part of life that often leaves us feeling like less than we are.
We do not need to buy Harley’s and go on a trip (although that would be fun!). We need only to engage with those God has placed us alongside. Much like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, we simply need to have meaningful conversation around the happenings in our lives. God has each of us and all of us on a journey that is significant and worth sharing.
