Valuing Family
““Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.””
(Ephesians 6:2–3, ESV)
This summer has caused for me many reflections upon family.
With visiting my family in Saskatchewan, I am having to adjust to a blended family. There is a welcoming in of new family members but also a sense of grief around those who are no longer family. Family is not always easy but is so important.
We also make effort around our immediate family, particularly our spouse and children. Energy is spent to show value to one another, to enjoy one another, and to lean into each other’s lives / to build into one another. Whether it is traveling together, doing fun things together, or attending to one another’s needs, we work to instill value into each other.
God established marriage and family as the primary places for us to grow and learn and love. Let us make every effort to build into our spouse and children (no matter what stage we are at). Let us commit to our entire lives together while living each day as though it is our last.
