Praying Into Life
“When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.”
(Daniel 6:10, ESV)
When worrying about our health and well-being, when battling anxiety and feeling over-whelmed, when being faced with difficult decisions, it is challenging to pray. In some ways, these are the times we are naturally drawn to prayer … asking God for help, relief, strength. But, in other ways, these are the times we struggle most to pray - to truly pray and seek the Lord … rejoicing, giving thanks, trusting, casting our cares upon Him.
What I have appreciated most about our sermon series through the first half of Daniel is the prayerfulness with which Daniel approached life. Much of what he faced was struggle and challenge, and yet he walked consistently in step with the Father. He walked in holiness, prayerfulness, and love.
As we enter the Advent season, are we coming prayerfully? Are we entering with our heart and mind this journey towards celebrating the incarnation / the humanity of our Lord and Saviour? How will we focus ourselves not on the circumstances of our society and world but on the blessing and presence of God / on the new life we have through Jesus Christ?
