Doing the Work of Connection

And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.”

(2 Samuel 9:7, ESV)

I remember as a child playing with two tin cans and a string. We put them together to create our own “phone”. We thought we could hear one another over the string.

Today, in these days of social-distancing, we have much more effective ways of communicating and staying in touch - which we are so thankful for! The longer this COVID-19 situation continues, the more important it is for us to work at remaining connected with one another.

In 2nd Samuel 9, David reaches out to serve any members of Saul and Jonathon’s families still living. He did not have to, he did not owe any of them anything, but David desired to serve the family out of respect for his best friend, Jonathon. We reach out to our friends, neighbours, and church family not because we have to but out of respect and appreciation for them; we reach out to care for them.

Once again, I encourage you to find ways of reaching out to others. You may do this individually or as a family. Go old-school on this - phone them or send a note in the mail! Use the church directory as a guide; phone through our church family to serve and value one another.

Join in on some of the online efforts being made to keep our church family in touch - our online services, adult Sunday School, and our Thursday prayer gathering. Check out these mid-week connections and our bulletin each week for updates on church happenings and ways to contribute. Zoom, with the security measures we are taking, is proving to be a very useful tool for us, giving a way for our Ministry Teams to meet and for us to gather around the Word and prayer. Remember, joining on Zoom can be as simple as a phone call.

My main goal here is to remind you to stay in touch. Let us know in the church office if you need or can offer anything. Let’s not let social-distancing create relational distance - let’s keep connected!

Know you are being prayed for!
