What is our foundation?
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.”
(Ephesians 2:19–21, ESV)
I do not know a lot about building, but I do know a strong foundation is vital to a home’s ability to stand square and remain viable for a long time. If the foundation crumbles or shifts, no matter how well built the rest of the house is, it deteriorates and becomes unuseable.
What is your foundation in life? What or whom are we basing our lives and choices on? Is our foundation reliable? Is it the tires of the first picture or the bricks of the second?
This coming Sunday, in our 1st Peter series, we will be considering the foundational role of Christ in our lives. So often I lean on myself, on who I am or what I do; instead I am being drawn to Christ … so that our Father God may dwell with us.
You may want to do some reading in 1st Peter chapter 2 in preparation for Sunday. We are facing trials in life just as Peter’s readers were, and yet when our trust and obedience are in Christ, we can live in “triumphant faith”.
