Weddings and Combines
“And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.”
(Mark 6:31, ESV)
We have been talking a lot this summer about how we can walk closely with the Lord. Two consistent themes that come up are community and rest.
Weddings are very communal, and our family gets to be part of our friends’ wedding this coming weekend - which we are very excited about! It is uplifting and encouraging to be able to spend time with those who have walked the journey of life with us, who know us well, and whom we find safety with.
While the family returns home, I will then head to help with the grain harvest. The combine in the picture is quite similar to what I will get to operate. For me, this is restful. It is opportunity to be with close friends, to be engaged in farming, and to operate equipment - all things I enjoy. While it can be long hours and requires energy, it is restful for me.
As we considered on Sunday, Jesus knew how to make space for people, especially those closest to Him, and to rest. He knew how to be built up even while serving. May we find renewal in our Father so we can serve well!
