How Am I Doing?
“Teach them his decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave.”
(Exodus 18:20, NIV)
I encourage you to read and reflect on Exodus 18. Often I find myself in Moses’ position … moving forward without taking time to reflect on my own well-being, continuing in patterns that keep me busy but are not necessarily effective, micro-managing instead of trusting. Moses was taking the entire load of leadership upon himself, failing to equip and empower others to help with the leadership responsibilities. Jethro gives him important guidance towards a better way - better for himself and for Israel as a whole.
In the course I have been taking, the challenge to “check my own heart” was presented. It initiated a journey of self-reflection, considering my own health, my attitudes, whether I have been avoiding issues, and the way in which I am walking relationally with the Lord. This process has revealed good and bad, joys and sin, strengths and passivity.
Would you take on this challenge today - to “check your own heart”? In what way should you release a duty that is not yours to hold on to? In what way could you step up to serve another? Are you stepping into what the Lord is laying in your path or avoiding that which is difficult? Will you prayerfully and relationally open the depths of your mind and heart to the Spirit of God?
