Living the Faith Journey

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(Psalm 23:1–3, ESV)

When I stop and look for God, it is often striking how He has been speaking to me through a variety of people and circumstances but all with a related message. Today I hope to give you a glimpse into my faith journey as of late.

I was given the opportunity to be away this weekend - to ride my motorcycle for two days through some very beautiful country that we often miss because it is close to home. The picture above gives you one glimpse I had; there were many spots I wished I had a way to take a picture while riding. Having no hurry or agenda, being in the outside air, feeling the movement of the motorcycle, following the rivers, seeing the waterfalls and snow-capped peaks - it was an opportunity to slow myself and hear from the Lord.

Through different people, I have been pointed to read in both Psalm 22 and 23 lately. While we often gravitate to the comfort and promise of Psalm 23 (as quoted above), I feel more like David in early Psalm 22 - “Why God?” I have questions. I wish life was different. I trust Him, but I do not understand Him. Though we walk through challenges in life, He comforts, protects, and guides.

Are you stopping enough to be reminded of this promise? Are you pausing to notice the beauty of God’s craftsmanship all around us? How are we learning to allow the Spirit of God to guide our thoughts and meditations? What are we doing to slow our minds and hearts enough to hear not only God’s guidance but also to receive His comfort?
