Continuing to Grow
“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God …”
(Hebrews 5:12–6:1, ESV)
My thoughts from Sunday have persisted. We are called to incessantly grow and mature in our faith. Our faith is not merely about being saved but living saved! The cross is not only about justification but also sanctification!
But it takes a lot of effort to keep growing in Christ, to keep forming our lives around His, to keep leaning towards Him. It would be easier to step away. But none of us want to say we are still a “baby” in Christ.
We are called to maturity of faith. We are called to align our lives with Christ more and more each day. This is a relational alignment, a relational closeness that results in shared beliefs and patterns of living. It is walking together through our lives, enjoying and celebrating the new life we share in Christ.
