Looking Through the Eyes of Children
“… Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.””
(Matthew 19:14, ESV)
It was exciting to see all the children of NCC this past Sunday! There are many of them … from baby (such as the baby dedication above) up through our youth group. It reminded me again of the need for us to step back and take a fresh look at not only Christmas but so many aspects of life.
There are different pictures of this child-like sense of anticipation that stand out to me. In the above verse, we are called to trust God with the faith of a child … not a blind faith but a full faith. I often think of the shepherds; their response to the angels’ announcement was immediate excitement, celebration, and the decision to go and see the Saviour who had come.
Are we coming in this simple faith, or are the details of life complicating or inhibiting our faith? We talk about joy and hope and peace at Christmas, but those are not present for all of us; sometimes Christmas more represents the “hope of” these things (as mentioned Sunday morning). It takes deliberate effort and continual turning to God in order to find them (even a portion of them).
My hope is that we can experience the joy and faith of a child this Christmas while gaining a fuller understanding of the significance of Christ’s humanity!
