The Business of Life

The apostles and elders met to consider this question.

(Acts 15:6, NIV)

There are times in life we need to get together and talk things out. We do this in all relationships … family, church, work, neighbours, etc. If we avoid speaking to the issues, we isolate ourselves and often form grudges that keep us from being close to others.

This goes both ways. We should bring voice to the positive things of life … expressing appreciation and encouragement to others. But, there are also those things that are not so easy to talk about but require a voice so we do not remain burdened by them. God encourages the type of relationships where we do talk about these things … testifying to blessings and giving voice to struggles.

The Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 was a mix of exciting testimony of what God was doing but also had the difficult challenge of working through questions of how to adjust to how God was working. They found a way to work through it in both a unifying and direct way.

While our church AGM (Annual General Meeting) is not always “fun” or “easy,” it is an important part of who we are and how we function; it is an opportunity to give testimony to God’s work in and through us this past year but to also anticipate what He wants to do in and through us this coming year. Sometimes there are some “not so easy” things to talk through, but it is essential for our unity and health that we do work through them together.

Tonight is our AGM to review 2019 and to plan for 2020. We encourage you to come, to learn more about us, to see how God is working, and to be part of what God is up to in our church family.
