Preparing To Lead Church at Home

“Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son’s son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long.

(Deuteronomy 6:1–2, ESV)

The call to disciple our families is clear in scripture. As men we are called to be spiritual leaders in our marriages and families; as parents we are called to be the greatest spiritual influence into our children’s lives. This is daunting, but we have an opportunity to do this today like we’ve not had before. Let us allow God to strengthen us / to give us confidence to lead our families - in each day but also through our weekly online worship gatherings.

We were so happy with how many of you engaged with our online service and truly entered into worship with those in your household. But, some did nothing … missing out on worship altogether. I do not mean this as a guilt trip but want to inspire you to engage here.

It was uncomfortable for me to lead our family through the online worship. It was more personal. What should I expect of my family? Do I really need to pray with them? How do I engage them in what is being taught? How open do I share? So many questions …

My encouragement is this - cast your questions (along with your anxieties) onto the Lord. See this as an opportunity to grow yourself and your family. We hope to give you tools to help, but it is up to you whether you will allow the Lord to work in and through you each Sunday morning. It seems like we are in this for a longer haul than we want to admit, so let’s embrace it as an opportunity to consider new ideas and ways of serving one another.

Be encouraged! God is good!
