Staying Connected In A Disconnected World

And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

(Acts 20:32, ESV)

A good challenge during this COVID-19 challenge is being forced to rethink how to connect in meaningful ways with each other. In many ways we feel connected as we quickly have many connection points with each other via text, social media, and seeing one another Sunday morning. But, the number of connections does not mean we are truly and meaningfully connected. It is the quality of those connections that make the difference.

This past spring we saw friends we had not seen in well over a decade. We were nervous to see them as contact over the years had been limited to social media, and now we were going to spend 36 hours together. It was like no time had passed! Conversations were quickly meaningful and went deeper than regular daily conversation. It is these relationships we pursue; not that we will have this with everybody, but we are made to live in relationship like this.

There is something to seeing and having physical contact with one another that breeds closeness. So, in this season of not seeing one another, we must be extra intentional to remain connected. Even us introverts need to be close and connected.

Here are a few suggestions of ways to build connection during this disconnected season:

  • Instead of texting or messaging, phone someone. Ask the Lord to lay someone on your heart and then reach out to those He shows you.

  • Use the church directory as a guide to connecting with others in the church. Start with the person / family following you in the directory and phone through the list to show care and build relationship.

  • FaceTime and Zoom (and others) are great because you cannot only hear another’s voice but also see their face.

  • Join in on the NCC prayer meeting (Thursdays at 7pm) and Adult Sunday School (Sundays at 11:15am - breaking for Easter Sunday but resuming April 19th).

A big thank-you to the Congregational Care Team for phoning through the church family this past week to bring encouragement and check for needs!
