Am I Listening?

Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his drawn sword in his hand. And he bowed down and fell on his face.

(Numbers 22:31, ESV)

Today I read the story of Balaam. What a fascinating story! Check it out in its entirety by reading Numbers 22-25.

Balaam was a prophet - not always a good prophet, but one that did hear from the Lord. In this story, he was hearing from the Lord and yet missed the angel of the Lord each of the three times it stood in front of him. His donkey sure noticed, and literally took a beating for it. It took a talking donkey to open Balaam’s eyes.

Are we listening to the Spirit in an on-going way as we go through each day? Sometimes we hear a word from the Lord in a formal way, but then we feel we have it covered and fail to hear Him in the “smaller” moments of life. We do not only hear from the Lord at Sunday service or in our personal prayer times; if we are truly learning to walk with Him, we hear Him more in the everyday moments.

So, let us listen … as we work, as we interact with our children, as we make supper. Let us listen!
