Seeing Beyond Today to Eternity

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

(Revelation 22:20, ESV)

Some of us at NCC have been reading through the book of Revelation through Lent (following our MB Seminary’s Lent devotional). On Sunday - Easter Sunday - we ended with reading the promise of Christ’s return. “Come, Lord Jesus!”

We work up to Easter, celebrating, rejoicing in the reality of resurrection and new life. But what comes after? This week feels somewhat like a Monday morning to me - where we enjoy our weekend but then are a little unmotivated to go back to the week’s routine. Following Easter Sunday, it feels somewhat like a low after the high.

But we are living with the hope and promise of Christ’s return! Whatever we are facing in life, no matter how heavy it is, the best is still yet to come! These seem like empty words in many ways - not in their truth or meaning but like we are trying to apply a band-aid over top the challenges of life. This is not to minimize life’s hurdles but to point our thoughts and focus onto Christ who is sovereign over them. The joy, contentment, and peace promised in Philippians can be our reality … but these require us to walk with God through life, seeing beyond today to eternity.

This Sunday we return to the book of Daniel. In Daniel 7-12, we are called to see beyond today, looking to eternity, dwelling in the reality of our living and eternal Saviour. Be encouraged!

May the grace and peace of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, be with your spirit today!
